On 15th March, 2022, the Federal Ministry of Environment (“FMEnv”) in exercise of the powers conferred on it by the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Act, launched the Environmental and Social Management Plan Guidelines for Solar Mini-grid Projects in Nigeria, (“the Guidelines”). The objective of the Guidelines is to set up a simplified framework to ensure the sustainable development of mini grid projects whilst providing a less cumbersome process for the procurement of an EIA certificate.
