Biography
Babatunde Ige is a Managing Associate at the Firm’s disputes resolution practice and has over 13 years of significant experience in handling complex commercial litigation and arbitration. He routinely provides strategic advice on, and represents a myriad of clients in, matters arising from contractual breaches, land disputes, corporate governance disputes, and debt recovery, among others. He also regularly interfaces with law enforcement agencies on behalf of clients.
Relevant Experience
- Advised an International Oil Company (IOC) on an ongoing claim before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID)
- Led the team that successfully defended a conglomerate in a labour dispute before the National Industrial Court.
- Representing a tier one Bank in an appeal before the Supreme Court to challenge the award of $15 Billion USD made in favour of the judgment-creditor
- Representing a property development company in a major land dispute covering over 388 hectares of land part of which houses the now famous Sunrise Water within the Sunrise Hills Estate, at Asokoro, Abuja, Nigeria
- Leading the team representing a telco infrastructure company in a $60 million USD claim for wrong remittance of money into an account belonging to the telco company
- Successfully represented a tier one bank at the Court of Appeal in defending an order of a first-instance court recognising and enforcing an arbitral award in favour of the client
- Provided legal support to a consortium of local and international law firms that culminated in the successful challenge to the enforcement of a major arbitration award against a national oil corporation under the New York Convention
- Representing a global group and one of the world’s largest airports operators, in a suit at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory over a claim of over N2.5 billion in connection with the airport concessions in Nigeria recently
- Representing the Nigerian Army at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in a major land dispute covering over 245.2 hectares at Maitama, Abuja, Nigeria which the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Honourable Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Ministry of Defence and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja are all parties
- Representing an international investment company in a multi-billion-naira intellectual property claim against a federal government ministry
