Oil & Gas: 2025 Wrap-up and 2026 Outlook

In 2025, Nigeria’s oil and gas sector navigated significant transition amid global price volatility, accelerating energy transition pressures, and far-reaching reform. Despite these headwinds, the industry recorded material progress – including landmark acquisitions strengthening indigenous participation, record production levels, renewed offshore investment interest, and notable advances in gas infrastructure.

Gas emerged as a central pillar of growth, marked by key final investment decisions, expanded domestic utilization initiatives and continued progress on strategic projects such as the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Train 7, and the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano and Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben pipelines.

As 2026 progresses, delivery will be critical. Offshore developments, disciplined licensing, refining capacity expansion, and gas monetisation are likely to define sector performance. While structural challenges remain, particularly around security, infrastructure, pricing, and financing, the outlook points to a more disciplined, gas-focused, and investment-driven industry positioning for long-term resilience, scale, relevance within Nigeria’s economy and evolving global energy landscape.
