Olamide Obajimi is a Partner and Head of the Firm’s Tax Practice Group. A dual-qualified chartered accountant and lawyer, he brings a wealth of experience to his role, with deep expertise spanning corporate tax structuring, general tax compliance, regulatory and financial reporting advisory, tax planning and implementation, cross-border tax advisory, transfer pricing, and tax litigation. He is widely recognized for his strategic support to clients across various sectors during tax reviews, audits, and investigations by regulatory authorities. A respected thought leader and facilitator in the tax space, Olamide played a pivotal role in training federal and state tax officials on the implementation of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) in Nigeria. He also contributed to the review of the Joint Tax Board syllabus for the capacity development of Nigerian tax officials. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and holds an Advanced Diploma in International Tax from the Chartered Institute of Taxation (UK). In recognition of his distinguished expertise, Olamide was recently appointed as Chairman of the Tax Appeal Tribunal, Lagos Zone.

Relevant Experience

• Tax Advisory and Business Structuring: Advised various resident and non-resident entities and multinational enterprises on optimizing their Nigerian tax structures through the effective utilization of available tax incentives. This includes providing strategic tax support on mergers and acquisitions, encompassing tax due diligence, restructuring advisory, and securing relevant approvals such as tax reliefs and “no objection” letters from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS)
• General Tax Compliance: Managed end-to-end tax compliance processes for corporate clients, including the preparation, review, and filing of income tax and capital allowance computations with the FIRS. Oversaw the monthly review and submission of VAT returns, coordinated the preparation and filing of annual employer tax returns, and supervised the processing and acquisition of Tax Clearance Certificates from relevant tax authorities.
• Accounting, Tax and Other Regulatory Audit Support: Regularly advise corporations on their relationship with the government hearings, making representations to the government and including representation at governmental providing legal lobbying services
• Legal/ Tax Dispute Resolution: Represents clients in tax disputes with revenue authorities. This includes handling tax audits and investigations, negotiating settlements, and representing clients before the Tax Appeal Tribunal and superior courts of record

Public Sector Support:

• Participated in the formulation of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) framework (A tax voluntary declaration program), in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance and the FIRS.
• Assists the government in the drafting laws and regulations
• Participated in the ongoing review of the NDIC Act
