Biography
Muyiwa leads the Dispute Resolution and Government Business practices at the Firm. He is widely regarded for handling disputes and routinely represents clients before international tribunals and appellate courts in Nigeria, and is preferred for disputes of uncommon complexity and extremely high stakes.
His recent experience includes representing a sovereign-backed lender in enforcement proceedings connected to a circa N10 billion facility; acted for a foreign investment company in parallel LCIA arbitrations regarding an investment of about USD 25 million in Nigeria’s agricultural sector; and represented an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria in precedent-setting litigation before the Supreme Court, arising from derivative action by minority shareholders of a Nigerian bank.
Acclaimed for his versatility, Muyiwa also advises on public expenditure management, regulatory affairs and compliance, privatisation, corporate governance and tax-related issues. He is a trusted advisor to many government agencies and international organisations, including the Central Bank of Nigeria, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority, the Securities and Exchange Commission and USAID.
Beyond disputes, Muyiwa is frequently engaged on matters of legislative and policy reform. He played a leading role in drafting of several landmark statutes in Nigeria’s financial sector, including the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007; the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria Act, 2010 (and its 2015 and 2019 amendments); and the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act, 2020.
