Biography

Thelma Murray-Bruce is an Associate in the firm’s Government practice. She is an integral part of the Government Business team, where she advises on legislative drafting, policy reforms, and regulatory compliance. She has experience working closely with government agencies and international organizations on the development and implementation of key legal frameworks. Thelma also has a background in dispute resolution and enterprise law, having represented clients in superior courts and advised on various commercial agreements. She has also contributed to the development of regulatory frameworks in critical business sectors. Thelma holds an LL.B (First Class Honours) from Gregory University, where she was the Best Graduating Student in 2022, and a B.L (Second Class Upper) from the Nigerian Law School.  

Relevant Experience

  • Assisted in drafting and reviewing the National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill, 2024, including attending stakeholder sessions and managing regulatory correspondence
  • Represented the firm at stakeholder sessions on the Decentralization of the Birth and Death Bill, contributing to policy discussions
  • Advised on multiple cross-jurisdictional legal issues affecting various sectors, including telecommunications, foreign investment, and financial services
  • Performed company secretarial duties, including corporate filings, board meeting documentation, and compliance checks for major national and international companies
  • Represented an international organization in litigation aimed at setting aside an arbitral award.
  • Reviewed and redrafted a proposed bill proposed by a Federal Ministry, and advised the federal ministry on the feasibility and implications of stakeholder recommendations
